Pro Wrestler Sues For Unsafe Conditions, Injuries

Okay, I don't like to make a habit of poking fun at the misfortunes of others -- but sometimes scanning the day's raft of personal injury lawsuits fills me with a certain schadenfreude.

Which brings me to a legal action filed by professional wrestler Gregory Lee, who is suing a number of defendants for failing to provide a safe pathway from the ring, where I can only assume he engaged in extremely unsafe maneuvers and sustained a combination of both superficial and chronic injuries.

But this is no joke -- Lee fell and was injured on July 10 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview when the stairs leading from the wrestling ring collapsed, causing him "unreasonable risk of harm" (according to his slip and fall complaint). I guess all bets -- and liabilities -- are off once a wrestler steps into the ring, and of course the antics of the performance involve calculated, known risks of harm.

Chicago personal injury lawyer Michelle M. Kohut is seeking damages for her client "in excess of the jurisdictional limit" provided by the court, whatever that is. Lee might be able to pin down a decent victory if he can prove that the "injuries of a personal, pecuniary and permanent nature" suffered by the collapse will impact his future ability to make money. It's just kind of ironic that his profession is based on the real and punishing self-infliction of personal injuries.

Anyone who still thinks this stuff is all fake should check out Mickey Rourke's amazing performance in "The Wrestler." Here's a trailer:

Windy City Pro Wrestling (the promoter of the event), the Village of Bridgeview and several other parties are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
